History of Islanders Bank
In 1980 several individuals in San Juan County began the process of forming a bank. Their goal was to serve the financial needs of the County, its businesses and its citizens. Richard Kneipp was hired as the President/CEO and Islanders Bank opened it doors for business on July 5, 1981 in Friday Harbor.
A second branch office was established on Orcas Island in October of 1988 and in August, 1996 Islanders Bank purchased our Lopez Island branch from Key Bank. On August 11, 1998 San Juan Financial Holding Company was formed, and currently operates with the three branch offices and employs 51people.
