30 Plus Years of Service
Islanders Bank was organized in 1980 by a number of San Juan County residents, two of which are still active board members. Their goal then, as now, was to serve the financial needs of the County, its businesses, and its citizens. Islanders Bank opened its doors for business on July 5th, 1981 in Friday Harbor. A second branch was established on Orcas Island in 1988, and in 1996, Islanders Bank acquired the Lopez Island Branch. No other bank has as many offices, employees, loans and deposits in the San Juan Islands and we are proud to be a service to our community.
Community Bank with Expertise
Community Banking has changed in the past decade. Islanders Bank has invested significantly to improve technology and provide banking services formerly reserved for large “national” banks. Online banking, remote deposit capture, merchant services, and electronic bill pay are services that have been added to our product mix to ensure that our customers receive the same level of products and services that larger off-island banks provide. Plus, we know your name and coach your kids’ sports teams!
Strength and Local Knowledge
Islanders Bank is the only bank headquartered in San Juan County. It is a safe and sound institution and has remained profitable even during the recent economic crisis. Islanders Bank is rated Excellent by Bauer Financial, which indicates that the bank’s financial performance compares favorably to banks across the country. Islanders Bank is dedicated to long-term success in San Juan County.
Islanders Bank loan officers and staff live in the Islands and understand the intricacies of doing business here. Our loan officers have decades of experience and are dedicated to the social and economic improvement of our communities.
In 2006 Islanders Bank was purchased by Banner Corporation, organizational parent of Banner Bank. As a separately chartered and managed institution, Islanders Bank has the benefits of a larger bank in terms of products, expertise and capitalization, while maintaining local control, knowledge and perspective.
